How Many Ad Creatives Does a DTC Brand Actually Need Per Month?
Published
Asking how many creatives you need per month is asking the wrong unit. Count angles, not assets, and size the number by your review capacity rather than your spend.
The wrong unit
"How many creatives per month" is the question every content supplier is priced against, which is why everyone answers it with a bigger number. It's the wrong unit twice over: assets aren't tests, and production capacity isn't the binding constraint.
Count angles
An angle is a distinct reason to care. Three hook variants on one angle is one test with three openings. Twelve assets across one angle is still one test — and when it fatigues, all twelve fatigue together.
So the real question is how many distinct reasons-to-care you can generate, test and read per month. For most brands that's two to four. Not twenty.
Then size by replacement rate
UGC-style creative fatigues in roughly 30–45 days against 60–90 for studio production (MHI Growth Engine). That sets your floor: you need a new angle arriving before your current winner decays, or your account's performance sags while you produce the replacement.
For a brand running one product on paid social, that's a fresh angle roughly monthly. Multiple products or platforms scale it, but not linearly — angles often transfer.
The ceiling nobody sets
The constraint that actually binds is review capacity. Someone has to watch everything and decide what runs. If you're producing thirty assets and running four, you don't have a creative shortage — you have a decision shortage, and buying more assets makes it worse.
A useful diagnostic: what share of what you produce gets real spend behind it? Under about a third and the production number is too high for the judgement available.
Mapped to what we sell
- Test ($250) — 2 new angles, 4 finished videos. For brands finding out whether this works at all.
- Growth ($400) — 3 new angles, 7 finished videos. For brands who want the full plan and enough volume to test it.
- Partner ($1,500) — 8 new angles, 25 finished videos. For brands running more than one product, or launching.
Deliberately smaller than the category norm, for the reason in why more videos stopped being the hard part. See the packages.
